Whatever You Do Stay Alive By: Sherry Robinson

Whatever You Do Stay Alive
By: Sherry Robinson

When I first started reading this book, I felt sorry for April Conners. She was being put in a bad position representing an ‘alleged’ criminal on trial for murder of the Mayor’s daughter.

This is her first solo case, and all she wants to do, is show them all that she can do it, whether or not the guy is guilty or not.

Aprils job is to prove beyond a reasonable doubt, that her client is not guilty. The town won’t have it. As far as they are concerned, the guy is guilty as hell.

April on the other hand, realizes he could be, but she needs to do her job and nothing else. While everyone else has already convicted her client, she has to deal with the implications, and abuse from the Judges, and dirty looks from everyone, and outbreaks from her client. She is about fed up, and ready to throw in the towel, when finally, she decides to speak with one of the Judges and asks him to consider recusing himself.

Eventually that Judge does as she asks, and she gets yet another Judge, who also doesn’t put up with anything in his court room. Once again, April is thrown to the wolves by yet another Judge.

About ready to give up, April can hardly wait to go home for her date with her boyfriend later that night. Finally, she will be able to take her mind off of the case, and maybe even relax, and enjoy herself.

To make a long story short, somehow, her client gets released, and her plans for a relaxing night, turn into a night from hell. Thus, the title: “Whatever You Do Stay Alive.”

Eventually, April learns by looking up online, that the Mayors daughter was not her clients first kill. She in fact, was seeing even more than she wanted too, when she realized that this idiot had even killed her boyfriend, and intended on killing her next.

You will read a down right shocking mystery thriller as you witness first hand from April Connors eyes, her life in danger, and the wrath of the killer she is dealing with, and how she hopes to overcome him, but will she?

You will need to read this overwhelming five-star book and find out. This is an exciting book, that will keep you wanting more as you sit on the edge of your seat, cringing and waiting, and worrying about April. You will be pleased, trust me.

Playmaker By: V.L. Locey

Playmaker

By: V.L. Locey

You know us women, we have secrets. More than we care to admit. And sometimes, they leak out, sometimes not by choice. And then other times, they eat us up from the inside out. I know as you’re reading my words, you can relate, whether you care to admit it or not.

In the book ‘Playmaker’ the character Whitney Beaupré has a secret, one that she has kept for years. And if you are aware of the writings by Ms. Vicki, then you know. This book pertains to hockey. Therefore, Whitney has kept this secret both on and off the ice, and it is eating her up inside.

Whitney feels like she is trapped within herself, in a never-ending prison, not allowed to say or do what she wants, and she wants to be free, but at the same time, to break free, could be just as terrifying.

Then one day, Whitney meets the beautiful Hannah Kym, and the attraction to this woman is something much fiercer than she has ever experienced before. Not only that, it is instantaneous, something Whitney has also never felt before, it was like being pulled by a magnet.

Being on the Venom Hockey team has been Whitney’s main focus, but now her focus seems to be distracted. Her heart is compelled to call her out, and make her realize, that she doesn’t need to hide her true feelings any longer.

Whitney battles with her thoughts, and feelings, and realizes, being gay is not a crime, and she can come out of the closet. She just needs to build her own confidence, and hope that Hannah will return the feelings. The first step, is to stand strong, and upwards, and face her own fears, and admit and even confess to everyone else, her own secret, that she has been hiding all of these years.

In this story, Vicki helps you as the outsider, see and feel, that as an LGBTQ person, you are not the only person battling with secrets, and hiding your true self from others. And that believe it or not, as you will learn, and maybe didn’t even know, there may be another feeling the same way about you, just waiting on you to make the first move.

It is time to stop hiding in the closet. The world is changing, be confident, and stand up for yourself, and to others. There isn’t a need to hide any longer. Yes, people will judge. But you are you, and the only way to be a successful you, is by trying, and going for it.

I give this book five amazing stars. I like the fact that Vicki addressed this issue. And she did a beautiful job at it too! Very impressive, job well done Vicki, as always! If you aren’t a fan of Vicki yet, like myself, you will be now! She is truly an amazing writer!

My questions for Vicki:
1. What made you write this book and how long did it take you?

When I decided to write a series about a women’s pro hockey team, it only made sense to have at least one player be on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. So, Whitney was created at the very beginning with the knowledge she’d get her own novella along the way. It probably took me about a month to write.

2. Do you have photos or descriptions of these characters?

Whitney and Hannah can be seen on the cover for Playmaker! The cover artist did a great job capturing both young women.

3. Who designed the cover for you?

Amber at Reverie Formatting & Design

4. What inspires you to write?

Oh, gosh, so many things. Sometimes it’s a song, or a picture. Other times it can be a TV show, a person I see in the store, or something as simple as a man walking a dog. Inspiration comes from all over!

5. Do you actually play Hockey? If so- for how long?

No, I don’t but I wish I could. I have terribly weak ankles and standing on skates is out for me.

6. What are all your hobbies?

I love to read, play video games, walk, practice yoga, collect comic books, and watch hockey.

7. Have you ever had writers block? Whether or not you have, what do you suggest for those who get it?

So far I’ve been fortunate and not suffered too badly with writers block. Sometimes simply getting away from the writing for a day or two will help when I get stuck on a scene or part of a story.

8. What is your favorite book of all time and why?

I’m not sure I can pick just one, I have so many beloved books on my shelf.

9. Have you ever written other books that aren't about "Hockey?"

I have yes! I’ve written MM shifters romances that are getting a new cover and will be released in a collection soon. I’ve also penned some plain old contemporary MM romance as well as a retelling of the Orion myth.
